The Jack Teagarden Orchestra never really caught on during the swing era and eventually the trombonist/leader went bankrupt. However, as these studio recordings show, the band was not without interest. Teagarden was easily the most interesting soloist in what was really a no-name outfit but the 16 performances (the majority from 1942 and 1944) are full of swing, spirit and strong moments. Kitty Kallen has the vocal on "Swing Without Words" and the leader gets two chances to sing but the emphasis on this LP is, as the title suggests, on "Rompin' and Stompin'."
