This budget Creedence Clearwater Revival is about as sparse as they come, featuring a mere nine tunes from the classic rock superheroes, only three of which -- "Proud Mary," "Travelin' Band," and "Green River" -- were actual hits. There are far better CCR compilations out there, specifically 1976's Chronicle, Vol. 1. Rollin' on the River feels a little dead in the water, but it does have the dark, brilliant, epic "Effigy" from 1969's Willy and the Poor Boys, which makes it worth the weight of removal from the cut-out bin.
