Appropriately for an intense, high-speed auto racing game (available for the Sony Play Station), Rollcage is given an accompanying soundtrack filled with intense big-beat electronica. To the general listening/gaming public, only Fatboy Slim's name will be familiar (both of his contributions, "Soul Surfing" and "Love Island," are taken from his instant classic, You've Come a Long Way, Baby), but the rest of the artists -- Aphrodite, EZ Rollers, Pressure Rise, Danmass, Pascal, Freestyles, Ed Rush & Nico, among others -- will win over anyone just familiar with Fatboy Slim. Not all of this is as straightahead as Fatboy, though some of it is. The best moments take chances -- Aphrodite's "King of the Beats" twists hip-hop into jungle, Ed Rush & Nico's "Technology (Boymerang Remix)" floats between trance and drumnbass -- but all of it plays extraordinarily well, resulting in a terrific late '90s electronica sampler that is of interest not just to gamers, but to general listeners, as well.
