AllMusic Review by

British cornetist Rod Mason (who doubles on alto) features two overlapping groups on this superior double LP. His "Hot Five" is actually a sextet that includes trombonist Joe Wulf and clarinetist Engelbert Wrobel, while his Savannah Orchestra is a 12-piece unit. Performing music primarily from the 1920s, the Orchestra is of particular interest because of the inventive in-the-tradition arrangements and the repertoire, which includes such numbers as "Deep Henderson," "Pasadena," "Sugarfoot Stomp" and "I'd Love It." An excellent introduction to the music and playing of Mason, a notable European musician who is virtually unknown in the United States.
