Country music's favorite fake hobo teams up with the Midwest's top roots music combo for a spirited, if at times surreal, outing. The Skeletons, featuring D. Clinton Thompson's excellent fretboard work, provides perfect retro backing on everything, while Boxcar is quite at home on traditional '50s boppers like "Mystery Train" and "Rockin' Bones." But the true candidate for the twilight zone is his version here of "Achy Breaky Heart," complete with his patented train whistle. It doesn't get much weirder than this in any style of music.
