AllMusic Review by

Like the almost simultaneously released 101 Pirate Radio Hits, the triple-disc collection Rockin’ with the Pirates capitalizes on the Richard Curtis film The Boat That Rocked (entitled Pirate Radio in the U.S.) but unlike that set or the film’s soundtrack, Rockin’ with the Pirates digs deep into forgotten corners of the swinging ‘60s, offering up more rarities and excavated 7"s than recycled tunes. Even the bigger names here, like the Beach Boys and the Hollies, are represented by songs that aren’t among their biggest hits, arguably keeping this truer to the freewheeling spirit of pirate radio than the film itself. Of course, this means that it doesn’t quite deliver the expected dose of nostalgia that casual fans of the film might expect, but for those who want a collection of unexpected ‘60s pop nuggets, this is very welcome.
