AllMusic Review by

While this 11-track compilation from the Madacy label does feature the number one R&B singles "Papa's Got a Brand New Bag" and "Cold Sweat," as well as other well-known hits like "Get Up Offa That Thing" and "Funky President (People It's Bad)," it's a budget compilation in every sense. The price and packaging are both cheap, and the selections leave much to be desired. It contains far too many deep cuts to provide a proper introduction to Brown's extensive and prolific catalog. Only James Brown completists need forgettable songs like 1979's odious "For Goodness Sakes, Look at Those Cakes."
