The fifth volume in Madacy's year-by-year overview of the biggest hits of the '70s and '80s reveals 1974 to be another eclectic year for pop radio -- while smashes like Brownsville Station's "Smokin' in the Boys Room," BTO's "Takin' Care of Business" and Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Sweet Home Alabama" reflect the increasing popularity of hard rock, America's "Tin Man" and Terry Jacks' "Seasons in the Sun" are reminders that there was a demand for much softer sounds as well.
