Madacy's Rock On '70s series is a low-priced roundup of popular songs from each year of the decade. The songs are wide-ranging and, although they seem thrown together with little regard to context or pacing, do a fairly good job of recreating what 45 minutes or so of listening to a decent AM station would have been like. The 1970 volume includes some very big pop hits like Sugarloaf's "Green Eyed Lady," Three Dog Night's "Mama Told Me (Not to Come)," B.J. Thomas' "Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head," and Norman Greenbaum's "Spirit in the Sky" plus a little bit of soul like Eddie Holman's transcendent "Hey There Lonely Girl." There isn't a bad song to be found, and for a '70s neophyte, the disc might make a nice intro to the era.
