AllMusic Review by

CEMA Special Markets' Rock of the '80s, Vol. 5 is a haphazard but quite enjoyable collection of New Wave hits from the early '80s. There aren't many surprises here -- only Ultravox's "Dancing with Tears in My Eyes" and DiVinyls' "Pleasure and Pain" don't regularly appear on New Wave collections -- but it's a good basic sampler, featuring such staples as "Too Shy," "Tenderness," "Talk Talk," "Karma Chameleon," "Mexican Radio," "Call Me" and "She Blinded Me with Science." For budget-minded casual fans, it's a pretty good choice, even if it isn't a remarkable one.
