Anyone nostalgic for the period of music covered throughout Madacy's Rock 'n' Roll Reunion series won't be alone. As the label thankfully indicates at the top of each edition, the songs included are not the original versions; instead, they are newly recorded takes by the original artists. Unsurprisingly, there is never an instance in which a new version tops the original, so the whole series should be avoided -- unless, of course, you are interested in new versions (and admittedly decent ones in some cases) of old songs. The 1971 edition features remakes of Lynn Anderson's "Rose Garden," Tommy Roe's "Stagger Lee," Rare Earth's "I Just Want to Celebrate," Rufus Thomas' "The Breakdown," and the Chi-Lites' "Give More Power to the People."
