These recordings on Japan's fine P-Vine label basically pick up where its previous volume, Goin' to Move, leaves off, with little chronological overlap. Regarded by some insiders as the "silver group collection" (because all but one of these quartets have the word "silver" in their names), these sides were cut between 1944 and 1950 when gospel music was still on the commercial boom. The other side of this, of course, is that these groups were all from the East Coast -- Harlem, Newark, and Boston, mostly. The two biggest groups here, the Silveraires and the Silver Echo Quartette, dominate the set, but there are selections from the Silver Leaf Quartet of Florida, the Silvertones, and the Sky Light Singers as well. Overall, the material here is a bit more showy, slick, and polished, taking much from the vocal pop styles of the day. That doesn't mean it's inferior to Goin' to Move -- far from it. What is here is all dynamite.
