Roads Less Travelled: Sun Recordings Review

Varese's Roads Less Travelled contains 18 hard-to-find Sun recordings from Johnny Cash and the Tennessee Two, songs that were either not released or weren't issued as A-sides or languished as album tracks. This is actually a bit of a godsend, since Cash and the Tennessee Two were at their peak at Sun and it's a little difficult to dig deep into their catalog for lost treasures, unless you're willing to delve into Bear Family's overly exhaustive Man in Black set. This culls the very best elements of that set, and while there's no revelations, there are plenty of small gems to enjoy and it's easily the best choice for serious listeners (who are not completists) after they've absorbed the very best of his Sun material.
