The Torquays' second disc shows no sophomore slump as they negotiate through a batch of great, fiery instrumentals with consummate ease. Unlike other retro surf bands, all the members of the group are long enough in the tooth to have legitimate first-hand knowledge of the music they choose to interpret, and it shows in the tasty way they approach all of the material here. All 18 tracks are winners, but special attention should be paid to guitarist Steve Soest's originals, "Trilobite," "Splash Zone," "365 Day Weekend," and "El Baile de Los Chupacabras." A solid session that's well worth picking up.
