AllMusic Review by

Vol. 7 in Big Bill Bissonnette's "Best of the Brits" series, this CD does indeed have some of the better (if mostly obscure) English trad players. Trumpeter Norman Thatcher is the main star, mixing Bunk Johnson with Ken Colyer and others, but in his own basic style; plus, he plays in tune! The septet also includes clarinetist Chris Blount, trombonist Dave Vickers, pianist Barry Grummett, banjoist Dave Brennan, bassist Mick Kennedy and drummer Malc Murphy, and performs ensemble-oriented renditions of a variety of lesser-played numbers, with the only real standards being "Just a Gigolo," "Snag It" and "Indiana." Among the other highlights are a delightful rendition of "There's Yes Yes In Your Eyes," "I'm Sorry I Made You Cry" and "Lily of the Valley." Easily recommended to pre-swing collectors.
