Rhyme Time: Kids' Story Rhymes features singalong versions of well-known nursery rhymes as performed by the Hit Crew and a children's vocal group. Unlike many contemporary children's albums, Kids' Story Rhymes makes no attempt to be hip or cool, which is a good thing. Unfortunately, though, the album errs too much in the other direction at times, and the overly simple instrumentation and singsongy vocals from the children become grating to all but the youngest of ears. However, there are a few moments the entire family can enjoy, such as the old-timey versions of "She'll Be Comin' Round the Mountain" and "On Top of Old Smokey," and the slightly poppier sounds of "Red River Valley." With versions of songs like "Aiken Drum," "I'm Always Chasing Rainbows," and "Shenandoah," the album goes a little bit deeper into children's songs and American popular song than some collections do, but it's still an adequate children's album at best.
