A tremendous assembling of singles and rare tracks, this CD makes the case for Mescaline Drive being one of Japan's most kick-ass female rock bands. Equal doses flower power and women power, this release starts off in fifth gear and stays there. Lead singer Yoko Itsumi has a deep, powerful voice and expresses simmering rage in such originals as "Sister, Say No!" and the scathing "I Don't Like," but where the record really shoots off is their cover versions. They go after Bob Dylan's "Most Likely You Go Your Way (And I'll Go Mine)" with a fury, as they do "In the Midnight Hour." They rescue Yoko Ono's "Move on Fast" from rock obscurity and their unstoppable take on "River Deep Mountain High" is positively transcendent. Seek this out immediately.
