The fourth disc in a massive ten DVD set videotaped at the Blue Note in the fall of 2005 features Chick Corea with one of his favorite collaborators, vibraphonist Gary Burton. This nearly hour long set focuses primarily on the pianist's compositions, all of which he had recorded earlier with Burton, including a few that date back to their earliest meetings in the 1970s. Although they perform together as a duo on an irregular basis, the magic is still very much present, with great interplay between them.
Both the camera work and audio engineering in the crowded New York City nightclub are first rate. Highlights include the tense, haunting "Duende," a rambunctious, playful interpretation of Thelonious Monk's "Monk's Dream," Corea's tribute to another jazz piano genius, "Bud Powell," and his glistening masterpiece "Crystal Silence." This DVD is also sold individually by Image.
