AllMusic Review by

This was the first album recorded by Renato Borghetti, and with its exceptional selling of 100,000 copies, it became the first Brazilian instrumental release to win a gold record. Highllighting Borghetti's virtuosic execution at the gaita-ponto (the eight-button accordion) playing traditional milongas, chamamés, polcas, xotes, and other genres and compositions native to Brazil's southernmost region, Renato Borghetti/Gaita Ponto is thoroughly indebted to the past but with an eye toward the future expressed in the instrumental re-creation of old songs; this renovation of the gaúcho culture would be better accomplished in his subsequent releases, in which a wider expression of other Brazilian genres is shown with the use of more modern re-harmonizations.
