As the title indicates, 1993's REMEMBER PRECIOUS TIMES is a romantic lover's rock album filled with dreamy reggae ballads highlighted by softly crooning voices, sensual beats and ghostly arrangements. It's all so pretty that even a tune called "Armagidon" is effortlessly lovely. The 11 lengthy tracks all float on a familiar Sly and Robbie pulse. Sly Dunbar's instantly recognizable mix of electronic drums and hand percussion--he's living proof that a machine-made groove can still have soul--and Robbie Shakespeare's prominent, rubbery bass are the building blocks of all these songs. The vocalist's creamy harmonies and fragile, Michael Rose-like lead vocals hovering delicately in the middle distance on even the few driving songs. Highlights include the tender "I Love You," the sauntering "Make You Love Me" and the closing "Fatty Fatty," one of Sly and Robbie's trademark instrumentals, with the solidity and mystery of dub and the sophistication of jazz.
