This somewhat short but excellent disc finds the legendary Cuban singer in her latter-day prime before passing away in the mid-'60s. Revered as one of the top rural-styled trova singers in her native country, Maria Teresa Vera wowed crowds and record buyers for over five decades. The songs contained on this collection find her accompanying herself on guitar and backed by a sparse yet tight conjunto of trumpets and percussion. A perfect way for newcomers to become familiar with Vera's considerable legacy.
