Tenor saxophonist Boots Randolph released numerous instrumental country-pop albums on the Monument label throughout the '60s and '70s. Think of him as the Percy Faith of Nashville. Much like Mr. Faith, Randolph's choices of instrumentals were geared toward both the country and easy listening audience and included tunes like "Gentle on My Mind," "Hey Jude," "Stardust," and "Proud Mary." His earliest and biggest hit was "Yakety Sax," a takeoff on the Coasters' R&B smash of 1958, "Yakety Yak." Even those who don't know the name Boots Randolph will more than likely recognize his version of "Yakety Sax" as the theme to the BBC comedy The Benny Hill Show. If you're looking to buy one Boots disc, this would be the one. [Sbme Special MKTS reissued the collection in 2008.]
