Victor Sanz / Joseph Szigeti

Destination Unknown

(CD - Grammofono 2000 #78876)

Review by

Upon first listen, one might think Victor Sanz sounds a lot like Clay Walker. But upon further inspection, that's not a fair statement. Victor Sanz is an original: vocals, melodies, and even his image, being one of the only, if not THE only, country music artists with a Latin background. Although he favors traditional country music, he falls somewhere in the middle of tradition and the country-pop favored by radio. This 11-song compilation, mostly about relationships, offers up plenty of music that makes you want to reach out and touch the one you love. Sanz does a great rendition of the favorite pop classic "I Go Crazy" and gives it his own brand of country spice. Destination Unknown shouldn't fall on deaf ears simply because it's the product of an independent label. There's plenty of room for Sanz's talent in popular country.
