The Washington, D.C. band Antelope plays hypnotic, interweaving guitar and bass lines punctuated by studied, off-kilter drumming and overlaid by plaintive vocals. Its third album, given a bare-bones production by Ian MacKaye, features punky, exploratory tracks like "Dead Eye," lilting, modal pieces such as "Mirroring," and herky-jerky math rock outings such as "Contraction" and "Wandering Ghost." Despite its basic instrumentation, the three-piece produces a sound compelling enough to keep the listener coming back for more.
