This may be a budget CD but the packaging is inexcusable. The brief liner notes say nothing about the music, no recording dates are given and several of the musicians' names are misspelled in the back including clarinetist Heinie Beau, who becomes Heime Beow. The music from these MacGregor radio transcriptions is actually reasonably enjoyable. The 14 concise renditions of swing and Dixieland standards (such tunes as "At Sundown," "Dardanella," "Love Me or Leave Me" and "My Melancholy Baby") are spirited and the sextet (which includes cornetist Red Nichols, Beau and altoist Al Pellegrini in the frontline) looks toward Nichols' freewheeling Pennies of the 1950s.
