Bassist Red Mitchell and tenor saxophonist Warne Marsh team up on this second of two CDs. Although tenor-bass duets have a limited range of sound, Mitchell's virtuosity and Marsh's ability to come up with endless melodic ideas over common chord changes results in this set holding one's interest. Two of the 11 selections ("Background Music" and "Scrapple From the Apple") were previously unissued. With the underrated cool-toned tenor in superior form, the date (which also includes "Hot House," "Tea for Two" and "Ornithology" among the top numbers) should greatly interest his fans.
