It's easy to get swept away by this collection of fantasies, arabesques, and pastorales, rendered sweetly and slowly in Steven Halpern's inimitably tranquil piano style. Daniel Kobialka, violinist for the San Francisco Symphony, provides subtle melodic counterpoint on classical pieces and traditional folk songs. An almost unrecognizable version of Brahms' "Lullaby" is a sweet surprise, and the title track, Ralph Vaughn Williams' "Recollections/Lark Ascending," is pure Americana. These arrangements are perfect for daydreaming, meditating, or preparing for a good night's sleep.
