Rebirth proves a most appropriate appellation for this latest incarnation of the influential project which saw the late Oberdan Magalhães and trumpeter Jose Carlos Barroso fusing traditional Brazilian music with the funk and jazz of North America through the late '70s, recording three respected albums before disbanding in 1980. Oberdan's son, William, leads the new lineup, which features four original members -- in the form of percussionist Sidinho Moreira and all-important horn section Glaucus Linx, Demetrio Bezerra, and Lucio Silva -- through a rip-roaring set of salsa-flecked soul-funk sunshine which will have critics once again reaching for those Earth, Wind & Fire comparisons. Magic.
