This is a spotty but occasionally transcendent collection of Gene Vincent rarities. The first two tracks, "Hound Dog" and "Be-Bop-A-Lula," will be valued most by hardcore fans. They're 1956 live tracks (introduced by legendary DJ Alan Freed) featuring Vincent's legendary backing band, the original Blue Caps, with genius guitarist Cliff Gallup.
There are also brief interview snippets (one from a French tour in 1967), and some studio sessions from the late '60s (including the oddly psychedelic "Rainy Day Sunshine"). Also included are several terrific live cuts from the 1971 San Francisco Folk Festival, with backing provided by none other than Commander Cody And His Lost Planet Airmen, a musical meeting of the minds that more or less proves the generation gap was a myth.
