Metalcore originators Shai Hulud are credited as being one of the more influential of the pioneering mid-'90s hardcore bands to incorporate crunchy riffing into their straight-edge-tinged sound. Following 2008's Misanthropy Pure, 2013's Reach Beyond the Sun marks the return of original vocalist Chad Gilbert, who had been involved for a time with New Found Glory. The demonic rage of this innovative band approaching 20 years in existence is in top form on these 11 unrelenting songs, reaching their dynamic peak with the epic "Medicine to the Dead."
