AllMusic Review by

A pairing of two late-'70s Johnnie Taylor albums. Originally released by Columbia Records, this two-fer is better than expected, especially when you consider the weak singles released from the two albums -- "Love Is Better in the A.M.," "Your Love Is Rated X," and "Disco 9000" -- all unmemorable and flawed by commercialism. "Did He Make Love to You," "And I Panicked" (also done by the Dramatics), "I'm Just a Shoulder to Cry On," and "Stormy" are better examples of Johnnie Taylor's magic. Rated Extraordinaire is meatier than Disco 9000, where the material was so lean CBS tacked on two instrumentals.
