AllMusic Review by

The first of two Chaz Jazz LPs featuring pianist Ralph Sutton in a trio with clarinetist Kenny Davern and drummer Gus Johnson has plenty of delightful and hard-swinging moments that should greatly interest trad jazz fans lucky enough to find this long-out-of-print album. Sutton is typically powerful, Davern sounds in prime form and Johnson adds color and drive to the ensembles; both Davern ("Take Me to That Land of Jazz") and Johnson ("Sweet Lorraine") also take rare and fairly harmless vocals. High points of the date include "That's a Plenty," "My Honey's Lovin' Arms" and "I Would Do Most Anything For You."
