AllMusic Review by

R&B Smooth Selection is yet another one of Deca Dance's three-disc starter kits that offers an extensive, random overview of the style in question. This one focuses on laid-back contemporary R&B and urban sounds from the late '90s and early 2000s -- with the odd diversion into popular rap tracks from the same period. Aaliyah's "Age Ain't Nothing but a Number," Omar's "Be Thankful," Mystikal's "Shake Ya Ass," Shaun Escoffery's "Days Like This," 2Pac's "California Love," Joe's "Stutter," and the Dazz Band's version of Norman Connors' "You Are My Starship" lead the pack. This makes for a decent impulse purchase, a satisfactory way to play catch-up with the period and styles that are surveyed.
