AllMusic Review by

This imported CD from Spain features Miles Davis during a 1948 broadcast from the Royal Roost and on a pair of 1952 radio airchecks from Birdland. The former set matches the trumpeter with altoist Lee Konitz, pianist John Lewis, bassist Curly Russell and drummer Max Roach. A week earlier the five had been joined by four other musicians during the only live broadcast by Davis' Birth of the Cool Nonet. Their quintet outing is a bit more conventional although Konitz's tone (which blends perfectly with Miles') is unique; Poncho Hagood takes the vocal on "You Go to My Head." The remainder of the disc features Davis, altoist Jackie McLean, pianist Gil Coggins, bassist Connie Henry, drummer Connie Kay and Don Elliot on vibes and mellophone in a more jam session-flavored program. The sound quality is listenable if not state-of-the-art but Miles Davis collectors will want this rare material.
