Hendrik Meurkens, the first significant jazz harmonica player to appear after Toots Thielemans (who preceded him by 40 years), is well showcased on this set of duets. He is accompanied quite ably by the tasteful Renato Chicco on piano during seven jazz standards and a couple of his melodic originals. Meurkens has a slightly different tone than Thielemans, but their styles overlap, and one could be mistaken for the other. Among the many fine songs on the lyrical and often-wistful set are "Secret Love," Horace Silver's "Strollin'" and "My One and Only Love." Recommended.
