Comprised of Major Matt Mason USA and Bionic Finger's Nan Turner, Schwervon! shows quite a facility for crafting charming lo-fi pop songs. As most of the tracks feature only electric guitar and drums, there is a definite homey quality that allows all the duo's many quirks to shine through. Most of the time, those quirks come across as a stripped-down B-52's crossed with Matthew Sweet, as the lyrics are generally rather silly and altogether clever, while the arrangements are incredibly tuneful. Frequently mixing food and love metaphors, tracks like "Dinner" and "Twin Donut" almost have a commercial jingle-like feel, with the boy-girl harmonies creating an almost surreal giddiness. Still, the band finds more than a few primitive pop grooves in tracks like "Eyesore" and "Schwervon!" that approach a classic garage band sensibility, as Schwervon!'s main strength is in never taking themselves too seriously.
