AllMusic Review by

Formed in the early '70s (a tough time for tango), the Sexteto Mayor (two bandoneons, two violins, piano, piano, bass) earned itself an international name in the '80s as a result of its involvement with the stage show "Tango Argentino." The group effectively claims the stylistic space between the elegant punch of the classic groups and the sometimes pretentious art-music of the nuevo tango types like the world-famous Astor Piazzolla and the much less known but equally influential Osvaldo Pugliese.
