This is the second release from Queen Elizabeth, the band formed by Julian Cope and longtime collaborator Thighpaulsandra. As with the first release (1994's Queen Elizabeth), this is live-off-the-floor ambient music. Well, it is ambient music, but with a twist. One song, "Tal-y-Fan," absolutely rocks in the beginning before calming to the ambient framework. Unlike the works of Eno or Sylvian, this ambient music is disturbing and downright frightening at times. The use of sounds and voices mixed down form to create music that would not be out of line in a horror film. This particular edition of the CD is the 2002 reissued version, with the same songs from the 1997 release, but with a very different front sleeve and packaging. This music is not for all tastes -- the songs are long and rambling; however, fans of this genre of music will enjoy the listening experience and this does show yet another side of the wonderful Julian Cope.
