This performance combines the meditative whir and drone of reverberating crystal bells (excited to sound as one would run a finger around a crystal goblet) and the church-like peal of the bowls being struck. The bells, when sounded together, often create their own "moiré" harmonic and take on a life of their own. Bell-ringers Lauter, Kim Atkinson, and Donna Soszynski maintain very even tones, introducing new vibrations and layers where appropriate. The sounds are meant to vibrate your body, so prepare to be moved and perhaps even annoyed. I appreciated the sophistication of the presentation; not all meditation tapes have to be sweetened with nature sounds and angel choirs. Twelve bell sizes from 8" to 18" were used.
