Putting It All To-Gether, Vols. 1-2 Review

by Steve Litwin

Putting it All To-Gether, Vol. I & II is the title of the album, and that's exactly what "Canada's Polka King," Walt Ostanek and WRS Records have done on this Spotlight Series release. Combing two previously released cassettes of the same basic title, the listener now has 24 tunes and over 60 minutes of music on this 1996 compact disc.

The smooth Cleveland style is evident throughout the entire package, filled with mellow vocals, high-quality instrumentation, classic arrangements, and a host of musicians. With everything from the "Slovenian Shuffle Polka" to the "Tennessee Waltz," this CD is a must for Cleveland/Slovenian-style polka fans. Rich in button box and accordion, it also provides the listener with banjo and sax stylings throughout the two dozen tracks.

Ostanek has been at this for a long time, gathering several Grammy Awards along the way. He's a class act in the polka world, and this is a first-class release.
