AllMusic Review by

Sony Special Products' Pure Country is an effective sampler of Joe Stampley's country-pop work for Epic Records in the '70s. In fact, in many ways it works as a hits compilation, since five of the featured songs -- "Roll on Big Mama," "Red Wine and Blue Memories," "Do You Ever Fool Around," "If You've Got Ten Minutes, Let's Fall in Love," and "I'm Gonna Love You Back to Loving Me Again" -- were Top Ten country hits, while the remaining cuts ("Whiskey Talkin'," "There She Goes Again," "I'm Goin' Hurtin'," "Poor Side of Town," and "Brown Eyed Girl") all reached the Top 20. Because of that, Pure Country is more than just a good bargain for a budget-line collection -- it's a good bargain in general.
