AllMusic Review by Heather Phares

Puras Polkas y Huapangos gathers 10 instrumental performances by banda and ranchera groups, including Cachorros Hnos. Villareal's "De China a Bravo," Los Rancheros Del Norte's "El Caporal," Gorriones Del Topo Chico's "Mi Norteñita," and Hermanos Banda's "Acordeones de Oro." Songs such as Tremendos Gavilanes' "El Fronterizo" capture the festive, sunny feel of Mexican dance music. While the album doesn't offer a lot of variety -- it basically consists of two tracks done by each of the artist listed above -- it does set a fun mood and may be worthwhile for those looking for a no-frills, but enjoyable, set of polkas and huapangos.
