AllMusic Review by

The fifth volume of the Punk Chartbusters series picks up exactly where each installment before it has left off, this time including 51 bands from Europe and beyond turning up the speed and spitting out punk renditions of well-known pop and rock songs. Two discs' worth of tunes, this is actually a pretty fun mix, since the bands cover a wide range of songs, including Cheap Trick's "Surrender," Lynn Anderson's "Rose Garden," Backstreet Boys' "I Want It That Way," Pat Benatar's "Heartbreaker," Midnight Oil's "Beds are Burning" and even a German rendition of Johnny Cash's "Ring of Fire" (aka "Ring Aus Feuer"). Punk and hardcore bands tearing through old favorites is by no means a new or unique thing, but for some reason, a well-done cover never gets old. And it certainly doesn't hurt that Germany's Wolverine Records has put together enough competent bands (who have the right balance of humor and respect to pull the songs off without a hitch) to make this rockin' collection come out with many more hits than misses.
