AllMusic Review by Scott Yanow

Many of tenor-saxophonist Lester Young's club performances of the early '50s were taped and came out on LP's posthumously (when he was not around to protest). In general they do little to help his legacy for the crowd noises, distorted sound quality and sometimes routine solos are not up to the level of his studio sessions. This Savoy set, with an unknown rhythm section and the average trumpeter Jesse Drakes, falls into that general category although Young himself takes some fine solos. Mostly recommended to Lester Young fanatics.
