Befitting a sequel as rote and predictable as Predator 2, Alan Silvestri's score does little more than rehash his music for the original film, favoring a bigger-is-better approach that ratchets the bombast to migraine-inducing levels. The central melodies and motifs established by Silvestri for the first Predator film remain ubiquitous here as well, as do the composer's sonic calling cards. Eruptions of horns, shrieking string arrangements, and swelling timpani combine for a sensory assault that's positively overwhelming. Music this frenetic and cacophonous no doubt demands deep listening, but even given one's full attention, Predator 2 reveals little or nothing of value. Smacking your forehead with a sledgehammer achieves the same end result, and at a fraction of the soundtrack's 45-minute running time.
