Powder Blue Skies was conceived in the Southwestern desert -- Taos, NM, to be exact -- and is best when listened to under a sky full of powder blue stars. Sampson's sound on this disc, his third solo release in six months, is slightly more immediate, the lyrics rawer. On "Spirit Song" he emulates the sound of a rattler with a pair of maracas and "Santa Fe Rose" features Spanish-style guitar.
