AllMusic Review by

Polbo, with their 2006 self-titled debut, joins the ever-growing cast of characters on the rock en espanol stage with all the stripped-down, geeky charm they can muster. Don't worry, there's plenty, and it's effective. With a warm, non-aggressive sound that harkens to the good-natured rock of yesteryear, Polbo sidles up next to the listener without pretension and asks, "wanna be friends?" Retro guitar tones, warbling B-3, and sizzling cymbals conjure images of black horn-rimmed glasses and velvet-decked martini lounges. The DVD component accompanying the CD features a series of charmingly low-budget music videos that are characteristically creative and artsy in their approach. The aesthetic of both the musical selections and the videos is pleasingly nerdy/hip, reminiscent of American groups like Weezer and Nerf Herder. The production, though clear and lively, has the fuzzy living room intimacy all too often abandoned by modern rock acts in preference toward the epic and dramatic. The Beatlesque singability of the hooks and recklessly fun quality of the instrumental performances make for an irresistibly enjoyable record.
