Jake Porter was a veteran trumpeter based in Los Angeles who had been around since the mid-'40s. Even though his basic style was Dixieland-oriented, he was flexible enough to play early rhythm & blues and, on this obscure LP, original Latin jazz. Utilizing such players as saxophonist Jackie Kelso (often heard here on clarinet), valve trombonist Bob Enevoldsen, and a four-piece rhythm section, Porter performs a dozen originals that have something to do with Baja and the Latin scene in Los Angeles. An interesting and very obscure set (the listed date is only an estimate), including a few melodies that deserved to catch on.
