AllMusic Review by

When the Marvelettes' "Please Mr. Postman" climbed to the top of the pop charts in 1961, it was the crossover hit a little independent label out of Detroit, Motown Records, needed. Motown rode on the Marvelettes' back into the heart of white pop America, breaking countless acts -- Marvin Gaye, the Temptations, the Supremes, the Four Tops, Smokey Robinson, and others -- and racking up countless gold singles, but the Marvelettes made it all possible in the beginning. This set combines two of the group's LPs, 1961's Please Mr. Postman and 1962's Playboy, and then tosses in seven bonus tracks from the period, including an interesting remake of "Please Mr. Postman" called "Twistin' Postman."
