This compilation offers some outstanding cuts, such as a terrific performance of the wonderfully titled "The Ass in the Graveyard" by the Shotts and Dykehead Caledonia Pipe Band, but the variety of sources makes it an uneven collection. Some performances are lackluster and a few others are poorly produced, giving them a one-dimensional sound. If there is any crime in the world of recording, it is making bagpipes, one of the most thrilling of all wind instruments, sound flat.
